September Monthly Post

September Monthly Post

As the day dawns, there’s something different. Waking up (or at exactly midnight if you’re not sleeping), there’s a now familiar ping and then a blue panel:

Stratum 1: Emerald Grove, F3 UNLOCKED!

Once again, clicking ‘MAP’ and looking at the second floor of the Yggdrasil Labyrinth and somewhere near the back, there is an icon indicating a set of stairs going down. If you had been in that spot previously, there would have only been a dead end. Go there now and you will find a set of stairs going lower.

As you step into the third floor, you will find that the map for this area is completely blank...and you will also find new things to explore...

Here is September’s Monthly Mod Post! As of this post, Floor 3 is now unlocked for characters to explore! There are also more Quests available at the Golden Deer Pub! Just talk to Fontayne to see them! Remember that Quests along with Labyrinth Encounters are listed under ‘This Month Only’ because they are only available this month! Enemy information and Scavengable Items remain forever. Labyrinth Information Page will list information that is consistent every month.

And remember, all those who participated in the event last month have received a Class Change Voucher allowing them to change their class to another one already listed in game. The Custom Class Change choice is still greyed out but who knows what might happen this month.

The form for Activity Check this Month is here still and the spreadsheet for checking it is here. We will continue to only ask for half AC since our numbers are still very low.

Floor 3 Information:
Notable enemies: Skeletons that seem frail at first glance but are very hard to kill completely because they can and will reassemble themselves and each other.

FOE:
Cutter: a monster that looks like a bear with wicked sharp claws! Beware it's high SPEED and ATTACK. But if you can dodge its attacks you may be able to deal some real damage! There are 5 Cutters and having better eyesight than the Ragelopes they can spot people from further away and start giving chase at ridiculous speeds. It's still possible to escape them with some ingenuity.. However, if you want to defeat one of these FOE, please contact a mod and we will let you know what the requirements are.

Scavengable Items (aka things you can find lying around without fighting things):
One brass bell
Scraps of poetry (can be sold for 10 gold each)
Chestnuts (recovers 10HP)

September Only:
Labyrinth Encounters
ENCOUNTER:
At the centre of Floor 3 there's a huge square of space that is inaccessible. There is one gate leading into the area but it's locked! Approaching the gate gives you the option to pick the lock or leave it alone. Leaving it alone ends with nothing happening though the prompt will always come back when you approach.

Choosing to pick the lock leads to the keyhole on the gate biting you (-10 HP) and it...keeps biting you. For the gate to let go, someone needs to sing it a lullaby. Someone that isn't you. Otherwise you will be losing 2HP every minute.

Quests
Go to the Golden Deer Pub to receive quests! Fontayne will let you know that as per Expedition HQ requirements, quest can only be undertaken by parties of two or more people! No dungeon diving on your own is allowed.

Quest 1: A cacophonous chorus breaks out above you as a conspiracy of ravens fight over a glittering chime. You can hear the siren call of the chime itself, bright and bell-like even over the flapping of too many wings.

It wants to be saved.

Success Conditions: Get the chime from the ravens and manage to keep it! Be warned though that the ravens want this chime at any cost and won't hesitate to attack you in order to get it back. They aren't strong by any means but their strength lies in their numbers.
Failure Conditions: The ravens get away with the chime.

Quest 2:
An NPC seeks a company of adventurers to escort his daughter safely to the second stratum to collect flowers. Just a normal request, right? His daughter looks away as you approach, fidgeting with the basket in her arms which seems much too heavy to hold anything more despite the fact that you haven't even left yet. If you bump into said basket, you'll notice a glint of something red and wet before she hastily covers it up again.

She will rebuff any attempts at conversation. At least until you get to a field of poppies.

The first and only words you hear from her are: I'm sorry.

Then there's a loud bellow coming from the trees as she throws the basket and dodges away, back the way you guys came as a large monster, half-bull and half-bear bursts through and attacks.

Success Conditions: Don't die!
Failure Conditions: Die!

Quest 3:
Napier has been talking about dragon egg shards and their many uses. There are many egg shards on the third floor but there's no telling if they came from dragons! For this quest, you've been requested to gather 20 egg shards. The only condition is the shard pieces must be as big as your palm. After all, no one can blame you for finding the wrong egg shard but dragon eggs are supposed to be big! These eggs can be found at various nests...just make sure the ones who laid the eggs aren't there. Then again, in this dungeon even the babies can be dangerous so be careful.

Success Condition: Collect 20 egg shards from the third floor
Failure condition: Dying while collecting the egg shards is an automatic failure but failing to collect enough egg shards also counts as failing.

Feel free to use this post to find quest partners or make plans!

Quests should be reported here.
